Weekly Careers Update #24/2025

This week’s update features new appointments and leadership changes across clubs in Germany, England, France, Austria, Poland, Spain and Turkey — covering roles in commercial, marketing, communication and executive management.

Christian Schweers joins Fortuna Düsseldorf
Christian Schweers will start as Head of Sales at Fortuna Düsseldorf on 1 July 2025. He previously led the commercial team at 1. FC Union Berlin and spent eight years in senior sales and marketing roles at FC Bayern München. He began his career in football at SPORTFIVE and BVB in sales and sponsorship roles. At Fortuna, he will report directly to Chairman of the Board Alexander Jobst. In his new role, he aims to help shape the club’s path and develop new, long-term partnerships.

Dane Murphy set to join Charlton Athletic
Dane Murphy is set to be appointed CEO of Charlton Athletic, pending completion of EFL approval processes. He brings leadership experience from previous CEO roles at Nottingham Forest and Barnsley FC, where he contributed to significant sporting successes. Earlier in his career, Murphy held technical leadership positions at D.C. United and Real Salt Lake. Most recently, he has been working as an independent consultant and will now return to a senior club role in England.

Pablo Arquero Fernández leaves Real Betis Balompié
Pablo Arquero Fernández is stepping down from his role at Real Betis Balompié after five years at the club. He most recently served as Head of Sponsorship, following two years as International Business Development Manager. Before joining Real Betis, he worked as an International Sales Consultant at UEFA. Fernández now plans to take on new professional challenges, to be announced in the coming weeks.

Barbara Muhr joins TSV Hartberg
Barbara Muhr has taken on a new role at TSV Hartberg, overseeing sponsorship, marketing and events. The Graz-based executive brings extensive leadership experience from positions at Steiermärkische Sparkasse, Holding Graz Kommunale Dienstleistungen, Energie Graz Holding, Messe Congress Graz and Stadion Graz-Liebenau. She is also President of the Austrian Tennis Committee (ATC) and of the Styrian Tennis Federation. In Hartberg, she will contribute to ongoing club projects, including the stadium redevelopment.

Stanisław Wrzosek promoted at Arka Gdynia
Stanisław Wrzosek has stepped into the role of Chief Marketing and Communications Officer (CMO) at Arka Gdynia. He has been with the club for nearly 14 years, most recently serving as Marketing Manager. In addition, Wrzosek has experience from roles with FIFA and UEFA as Venue Marketing Coordinator, and is a long-standing board member of Arka Gdynia Esports.

Aslı E. Koç Tiryaki leaves İstanbul Başakşehir FK
Aslı E. Koç Tiryaki has stepped down after six years at İstanbul Başakşehir FK, where she most recently served as Manager, Commercial & Sustainability. In addition to her club role, she is a member of the Sustainability Working Group at the European Club Association (ECA) and lectures at Bahcesehir University.

Alessandro Antonello joins Olympique de Marseille
Alessandro Antonello has been appointed General Manager at Olympique de Marseille. He joins the club after more than ten years at Inter Milan, where he held roles as CFO, COO and CEO, contributing to strong revenue growth and multiple titles. At OM, Antonello will oversee economic development, revenue diversification, and the club’s digital and international expansion. He also previously served on the boards of the European Club Association (ECA) and Lega Serie A.

Bobby Copping joins Lincoln City FC
Bobby Copping has started a new role as Head of Commercial at Lincoln City FC. He previously worked as Commercial Manager and Commercial Executive at Peterborough United FC. In addition, he is Co-Founder of The Bobby Copping Foundation and works as a Personal Development Mentor with League Football Education.
