This week’s edition highlights another range of leadership changes and senior appointments across the football business, with clubs strengthening their executive, commercial and communications structures ahead of the new season.
Johannes Dobretsberger departs FK Austria Wien
Johannes Dobretsberger has departed FK Austria Wien after leading the club’s Marketing & Sales department for more than three years. Prior to joining the club, he held several senior marketing leadership roles at Oracle across the EMEA region.
His responsibilities at FK Austria Wien will be taken over by Raphael Thonhauser and Benjamin Kollenz.
Hannah Darnbrough joins Charlton Athletic
Hannah Darnbrough has joined Charlton Athletic Football Club as Head of Retail and Licensing. She previously worked at Formula E as Retail and Licensing Manager, following earlier retail and licensing roles at Leeds United.
Karim Virani returns to West Ham United
Karim Virani has returned to West Ham United as Interim Chief Executive Officer. He previously spent more than five years at the club in senior digital and commercial leadership roles, before later serving as Chief Commercial Officer at Rangers FC and Global Director of Partnerships at Socios.com.
Mark Smith joins Wrexham AFC
Mark Smith has joined Wrexham AFC as Chief Financial Officer. He previously spent more than six years at Birmingham City FC, where he served as Chief Financial Officer and Financial Controller.
Jan Mencl joins FK Teplice
FK Teplice have appointed Jan Mencl as the club’s new Finance Director. He joins from Holcim, where he held senior finance leadership roles, while long-serving Finance Director Lenka Capoušková will remain at the club as Chief Accountant.
Billy Taylor joins Brentford FC
Billy Taylor has joined Brentford Football Club as Head of Corporate Communications. He previously worked at the Premier League as Senior Communications Manager and spent more than 12 years at Millwall FC in several senior communications and leadership roles, including Chief Operating Officer.
Mario Lenz joins SKN St. Pölten leadership team
SKN St. Pölten have appointed Mario Lenz as Managing Director, joining Matthias Gebauer in the club’s new dual leadership structure. Lenz arrives from ProSiebenSat.1 PULS 4, where he most recently served as Managing Director for Sport, Newsroom & Production.
